Abbey Animal Hospital - Virginia Beach, VA
Full-Time Associate Veterinarian | 4-Day Work Week
If you're tired of feeling like just another cog in the machine...
Maybe you've been there. The endless days that stretch into nights. The pressure to rush through appointments. The workplace where collaboration feels more like competition, and mentorship is just something they mention in the interview.
If you're a veterinarian who entered this profession to heal animals and build meaningful relationships with pet families—but find yourself questioning whether you can practice the way you truly believe medicine should be practiced—we'd love to talk.
What makes Abbey Animal Hospital different?
We actually mean it when we say work-life balance. Our 4-day work week isn't just a recruiting gimmick. Destiny, one of our technicians, tells us she's never had time off rejected in four years. Need fewer hours during a particularly busy season of life? We honor those requests because we understand that life happens.
We're genuinely kind to each other. When team members face personal challenges, we show up with encouragement cards and care packages. When Destiny had surgery, she received genuine support from colleagues who truly care about her wellbeing. This isn't corporate-mandated team building—it's how we naturally treat our work family.
You'll practice medicine the way it should be practiced. Dr. Knopp, our owner-veterinarian, believes in providing high-level care while respecting both client and staff time. You won't be pressured to cut corners or rush through cases. Instead, you'll have the tools, time, and support to practice excellent medicine.
Your growth matters to us
Dr. Knopp loves to teach and mentor. Ask Dr. Vallier—after working at many hospitals, she says this is the best place she's ever practiced because of the professional freedom to pursue special interests and the genuine support for professional development.
Whether you're a new graduate looking for strong mentorship or an experienced veterinarian wanting to expand your skills, we'll invest in your continued education. We currently have six veterinary assistants in technician school, and we've mentored over a dozen veterinarians and veterinary students over the years.
The medicine you'll love practicing
Our 6,000 square foot facility was completely remodeled and features five exam rooms, dedicated surgical and dental suites, and advanced diagnostic capabilities including:
Abdominal and cardiac ultrasound (Dr. Knopp is skilled at reading these and loves to teach)
Endoscopy (we're a local referral center for this)
Advanced orthopedic surgeries including TPO, TGA, and extracapsular repairs (if you’d like to learn great. If not, soft tissue surgery works well)
Surgical lasers
Full dental suite
In-house blood chemistry and diagnostics
Exotic medicine
We've become a trusted referral center because other veterinarians know we have both the equipment and expertise to handle complex cases.
What we offer (because you deserve it)
Compensation: $120,000 - $180,000 (based on experience)
Signing Bonus: $10,000
