Description
The Department of Microbiology, Immunology and Pathology, College of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Sciences at Colorado State University offers post-DVM graduate training positions in comparative pathology. The program is designed to culminate in specialty board certification and, most typically, granting of MS or PhD degrees. New to 2025 is a 1- to 2-year research fellowship (non-degree granting) opportunity. Residency training is facilitated by a diverse faculty, 27 of whom are ACVP, ACVM or ACLAM board certified. Graduate research opportunities include, but are not limited to, the study of bacterial and viral pathogenesis/therapy, mycobacterial diseases, arthropod borne infectious disease, retrovirus pathogenesis/therapy, transmissible spongiform encephalopathies, immunoparasitology, malarial molecular biology and immunology, vector biology, ecological parasitology and cancer or radiation biology. The first three years of residency and graduate training are supported by state funded stipends. Funding sources for subsequent graduate research are associated with the trainees’ research laboratories (e.g. grants acquired by the principal investigator and successful applications for NIH sponsored training grants and other extramural funding). Funding for the research fellowship option is through an NIH grant. Benefits include paid tuition and health insurance. Applications for ACLAM positions are recruited through the Veterinary Internship and Residency Matching Program (www.virmp.org), with an early deadline for lab animal/comparative medicine training programs of December 8, 2025. This deadline is distinct from other residency specialties participating in the VIRMP. Applications for ACVP and ACVM positions starting July 1, 2026, will be reviewed promptly as they arrive until the position is filled. No submissions will be accepted after October 1.
