Part-Time After Hour Urgent and Emergency Care Veterinarian need for AAHA certified small animal hospital in NE Ohio, (Salem). We are looking for Part-Time veterinarians for our after-hours Urgent and Emergency Care Center. We are a full-service, high tech, hospital with in-house lab, digital radiology/ultrasound, large treatment area, intensive care units, full surgery suite and all the equipment you need to manage your patients.
The development of an "urgent care" practice is new to our industry. Just like in human medicine, urgent care is designed to provide medicine to sick animals at a lower cost than emergency rooms. There are only a few of us in the United States and our goal is to provide excellent medicine for all dogs and cats after other veterinary hospitals are closed. Most clients are very appreciative of a lower cost alternative and at a time that works with their busy schedule.
The shift is from 4 pm until Midnight on some Fridays and most Saturdays. Patients are primarily urgent care and minor emergent patients. Common conditions seen are skin disease, ear disease, Lyme disease, Parvo infections, endocrine diseases, reproductive problems, heart and lung diseases, cancer patients, vomiting, diarrhea, and other similar sick dogs and cats. Common trauma cases are lacerations, bite wounds, abscesses, warbles, and occasional GI foreign bodies. Severe cases are stabilized then shipped to a 24 hour referral center in Akron. Minor surgeries are performed by attending urgent care veterinarian and sent home towards the end of the night. Patients are kept overnight at the discretion of the attending urgent care veterinarian.
Since the urgent care practice is new, the number of patients seen averages between 4 - 10 per night. It is growing quickly and will become a busy practice in the next two years. This is a chance for New Grads or inexperienced veterinarians to get their feet wet in urgent and emergency care without getting overwhelmed.
We are located in NE Ohio about 1.5 hours west of Pittsburgh, 1 hour south from Cleveland, 45 minutes east of Akron and 20 minutes south of Youngstown.
New Grads, inexperienced, experienced and relief veterinarians welcomed. New Grads will work with an experienced veterinarian until they are comfortable working alone. The owner is available to come in when needed, but the attending veterinarian should be able to work independently in a short period of time.
Salary is $500 per shift or 30% production, whichever is greater.
If interested, please send resume with references and contact Dr. Vickey Brooks by email to set up an interview.
Veterinarians will be required to examine animals to detect and determine the nature of diseases or injuries.
Treat sick or injured animals by prescribing medication, setting bones, dressing wounds, performing minor to intermediate level surgeries, or other therapies.
Collect body tissue, feces, blood, urine, or other body fluids for examination and analysis.
Perform laboratory procedures and diagnostic tests, including parasitology, hematology and urinalysis.
Operate diagnostic equipment, such as radiographic and ultrasound equipment, and interpret the resulting images.
Administer anesthetics, perform surgery, and monitor patients during surgery and recovery with the assistance of the technical team.
Follow discharge guidelines for hospitalized and post-surgical patients and treatment plan guidelines for clients to ensure proper patient treatment in the home environment.
Communication with clients to ensure follow up care with referring veterinarian, if needed. Referring clients back to their veterinarians is preferred.
Answer client questions and provide education on various aspects of animal care and treatment. Advise animal owners regarding sanitary measures, feeding, and general care necessary to promote healing of their pets.
Educate the public about diseases that can be spread from animals to humans.
Humanely euthanize animals when needed (we do not perform "convenient" euthanasia).
Document actions by completing forms, reports, logs and patient records. We use Avimark and the Urgent Care is paper light. Copies of all records, including SOAPs go with owner.
Train and supervise team members who handle and care for animals; as needed. A protocol book and employee manual is supplied.
Deal with clients and employees in a manner that shows sensitivity, tact and professionalism.
Provide guidance and leadership to the healthcare team that will positively influence the level of care and service provided to the clients and patients.
Additional Salary Information: Salary is paid on a monthly basis.
About Adamson Urgent and Emergency Veterinary Care Center
We are a progressive, growing, multi-doctor hybrid practice that believes in using education, skills, and modern technology to provide quality medicine for our patients while tailoring it to the client's needs and income. As a hybrid practice (day-practice and after hour urgent and emergency care practice) we provide medical care that combines general practice, urgent and emergency care. We don’t just provide routine care, but more advance care as well. A hybrid practice provides routine services and sick/urgent care services that fall between a general practice and a specialty practice. In March we opened a weekend (Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday) after hour Urgent Care and Emergent Care service. The hospital is a large modern and fully equipped 9,000 sq ft medical facility that has recently been renovated to create a calm and fear free environment (a virtual tour is available on our website AdamsonVeterinaryServices.com). We are AAHA certified and have a full in-house lab, ultrasound, dental machines, digital x-ray machine electro-cautery unit, 2 large surgery suites, multiple full parameter monitors and anesthesia machines, isolation room, portable oxygen cage, Snyder I...CU machine, 2 ICU isolettes, with facility to house up to 34 sick patients. We have a large waiting room split into two sections to divide dogs and cats. We are open 7 days a week with doctors rotating weekends. (We do not have boarding facilities).
