Northeast Ohio SPCA is a no-kill non-profit pet shelter that is searching for a veterinarian to care for our shelter pets, as well as some community outpatients.
Candidates must be DVM & DEA licensed and have some diagnostic and surgery experience. The individual that fills this role will be responsible for maintaining the health of our shelter population.
Routine duties include:
Assist in managing clinic guests, including those temporarily in foster care, focusing on identification, treatment, and prevention of health problems thereby increasing adoptions and decreasing adoption returns.
Perform surgical procedures on shelter/clinic animals, as needed, (spay/neuter, hernia repair, growth removals, dental extractions).
Maintain all established shelter/clinic medical standards, such as drug log/security, cleaning protocols, surgical procedures, medical protocols, etc.
Ensure compliance with all state and federal laws regarding the practice of veterinary medicine on site.
Maintain accurate and complete medical records, including those recorded in the shelter database (including treatments, examinations, test results, surgeries, and outcomes) and other records required by local and state laws.
Collaborate with the shelter manager regarding the composition and quantity of all animals brought to the shelter.
The ideal candidate will understand shelter medicine, have worked or volunteered in a shelter environment, or be willing to learn. A great attitude and the ability to maintain good relationships with other veterinarians in our community is a must. Annual salary begins at $140,000/year
