Philosophy
Core to the idea of building a better veterinary health care delivery model is the idea that our staff should be fairly compensated in a way that inspires exceptional teamwork, hospital performance, and client care over individual performance. We set out to build veterinary practices that allow the practitioner to deliver the highest standard of care, while preserving their mental and physical health through optimal work-life balance. Modern Animal leans into technology that allows teams to be as efficient and effective as possible, and fair compensation starts with a corporate commitment to creating and adhering to a plan that is designed from the start to provide it.
Traditionally, veterinary practices have compensated associates by paying relatively low salaries or wages that are supplemented by a production “bonus” based on the monetary amount of services and products the practitioner provides to clients of the veterinary practice. Oftentimes these targets are unclear and subjective and lead to a breakdown in teamwork.
Specifically for Doctors, while a production “bonus” rewards highly productive doctors, it also encourages doctors to retain case responsibility despite being out of the office, discourages mentorship of inexperienced doctors (as this time detracts from time that can be devoted to individual production), and has the potential to encourage the recommendation of unnecessary diagnostics and procedures in the interest of bolstering productio

SF Bay Veterinarians, Modern Animal is coming to a neighborhood near you!
We started Modern Animal in 2018 with a simple mission to build next-generation veterinary care by leveraging technology to improve the lives of pets, the people who love them, and the healthcare partners who take care of them. We’re rethinking systems and processes to improve the efficiency of the veterinary clinic in meaningful ways, giving the veterinarian not only the time, support, and tools s/he needs to practice the best medicine possible, but making it easier for the client to access the care their pet needs, when they need it.
At Modern Animal, we put innovative veterinary thinkers and brilliant software engineers in the same room and asked them to build a new kind of veterinary experience from the ground up. The result? A job that will rekindle your love affair with veterinary medicine. Come join a group of highly-skilled individuals who are reinventing the people experience in veterinary medicine, both for clients and clinicians. We have openings available in NoPa, Russian Hill (teaching hospital), Strawberry Village, Berkeley, Walnut Creek, and Palo Alto.

For most people, thinking of their veterinarian's office conjures memories of 1) stress, 2) weird smells, and 3) a lobby interior that looks like it should've been left back in 1976—Modern Animal is on a mission to change that. Through the thoughtful implementation of technology, a mission that prioritizes people over profit, a design-centric philosophy, and a talented team that cares deeply about the little things, we are ushering in the next generation of veterinary care. We're on a mission to better the lives of animals by building a place that’s better for all of us who love them.
