The Department of Clinical Sciences in the College of Veterinary Medicine at Cornell University, invites applications for a tenure track faculty position in the Section of Behavior with a focus on basic, translational, or clinical research. This position will be one of two full-time faculty being recruited for the college’s new Duffield Institute for Animal Behavior. These two faculty positions, as well as resident, staff, and research support are endowed by a $12.1M grant from the Dave and Cheryl Duffield Foundation, ensuring that the institute will be a world leader in advancing the discipline of animal behavior. We are seeking individuals who share that passion and have the vision, drive, and ability to develop a world-class program. This research-focused position will be expected to contribute to the teaching and outreach mission of the institute, as well as complement the clinical behavior service, as appropriate, based on credentials and interests.

Candidates with a small animal focus can develop consultation arrangements and collaborative research opportunities with the college-owned and affiliated small animal specialty practice in Stamford, Connecticut.
Candidates must have a degree in Veterinary Medicine and/or a PhD in ethology, neurobiology, psychology, or a related discipline. For non-veterinarians, preference will be given to those with certification in Applied Animal Behavior (CAAB). For veterinary candidates, preference will be given to those with board certification in the American College of Veterinary Behavior or the European College of Veterinary Behavior; however, candidates who have completed or who will be completing an approved residency within a year will be considered, if prior research experience is demonstrated. This individual will be expected to establish an independent research program that builds on current and future strengths of the college and university, and leverages collaboration with other institutions and organizations. Significant internal funding for research is available through the college’s Feline Health Center and newly-launched Riney Canine Health Center. Institute faculty will have shared responsibilities in the instruction of veterinary students, house officers, and graduate students. Individuals with clinical credentials and expertise will help develop a robust clinical service optimized for clinical teaching and training within the Cornell University Hospital for Animals. Distribution of effort in the Section and Department will be determined in accordance with the candidate’s expertise and academic goals in behavior, academic priorities, and service needs. The candidate should have strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work cooperatively with others in the institute, hospital, college, and university.
