The Veterinary and Biomedical Sciences Department (VBSD) in the College of Agriculture, Food and Environmental Sciences (CAFES) at South Dakota State University (SDSU) invites applications to apply for a 9-month, 100% time, benefit eligible, clinical, non-tenure-track position in the Professional Program in Veterinary Medicine (PPVM). Candidates will be assigned the rank of Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor depending on qualifications. Located on the SDSU main campus inBrookings, South Dakota, this role offers the unique opportunity to contribute to the growth and development of aspiring veterinarians!
The PPVM encompasses the first two years of a veterinary curriculum whereby each year a cohort of 20 students will begin the professional curriculum and complete the first two years of Veterinary School at SDSU and finish their final two years of the DVM degree requirements at the University of Minnesota, College of Veterinary Medicine.

MINIMUMQUALIFICATIONS:
D.V.M. or equivalent degree in Veterinary Science, Biomedical or Life Sciences, Animal or Dairy Science, or related field is required by the start date.
Ability to teach professional, graduate, and/or undergraduate students.
Specific experience in veterinary large animal (production animal) medicine and/or surgery
Ability to communicate effectively with a variety of audiences;
Excellent verbal and written communication skills;
Demonstrated organizational and time management skills;
Strong interpersonal skills;
Ability to work as a contributing team member;
Demonstrated use of technology in managing and/or delivering educational programs;
Demonstrated ability or potential to plan, develop, implement, and evaluate educational materials and direct effective programs.
Valid driver’s license, or ability to obtain one within 30 days of hire, and willingness to travel.
PREFERREDQUALIFICATIONS:
Experience in teaching large animal (production animal) medicine and/or surgery to veterinary students
Board certification and/or advanced degree in large animal medicine and/or surgery.
Specific teaching experience in additional courses specific to the veterinary curriculum for the first 2 years which would include physiology, clinical skills, professional development, critical scientific reading, immunology, preventative medicine, basic pathology, agents of disease, clinical correlations, non-traditional pets, veterinary genetics and genomics, pharmacology, systemic pathology, clinical epidemiology, public health, small animal medicine, surgery; large animal medicine, surgery; diagnostic laboratory, veterinary imaging, avian core or dermatology
Research experience in the One Health field, basic or clinical veterinary sciences, or production animal agriculture, or related area.
Ability to work in a clinical setting with understanding of US veterinary college requirements, along with medicine and surgical skills needed for large animal (production animal) veterinary clinical practices in North America.
The Department is within the College of Agriculture, Food and Environmental Sciences and oversees the Animal Disease Research and Diagnostic Laboratory (ADRDL); which includes various diagnostic sections including Molecular Diagnostics, Food Safety, Virology, Bacteriology, Clinical Pathology, Histopathology and Serology. The ADRDL is a member of the Food Emergency Response Network (FERN), FDA Genome “Trakr” Program, Veterinary Laboratory Investigation Response Network (VetLIRN) and the USDA National Animal Health Laboratory Network (NAHLN) and works collaboratively with other faculty of other disciplines.
